Custom Cabinet: Is it for you?
June 25, 2008
Custom kitchen cabinets can sometimes cost more money than stock cabinets or semi-custom. Since custom cabinets can cost more you may not get the money you put into the kitchen back when you sell your home. There are some factors that you might want to consider. 1. Budget. Most custom kitchen cabinets can cost over $50,000 for the whole kitchen. However there are a few ways to avoid these costs. You can buy your cabinets from a wholesaler. This can save you half the cost, and can sometimes be less money then semi-custom. It will however not be less then stock cabinets. 2. Property Value. Another factor that you will have to consider is property value . The value of your property can decided if it is a good idea to buy custom cabinets. If the value of your home is high then it is wise to spend the money, but if the value of your home is low it is not a good idea. You will be spending close to half the value of your home just on your cabinets. You should also consider the value of the houses in your area. If you put an expensive kitchen in a house that is in an area that is not redeveloped then your house will be over priced. You most likely will not get your investment back. If your house is the one in your area that needs to be redeveloped than you will increase the value of your home, and see the investment in the end. 3. Kitchen Use. Will your family use the kitchen after it is renovated ? I believe that they will because it is an incentive to want to use it more. However if you know that you will not use your kitchen then it may be best to invest your money in another area of the home. There are many reasons that can affect you wanting to buy custom cabinets instead of stock or semi-custom . If you feel that these three factors are not an issue than it might be wise to get custom cabinets. If they are there are many ways to achieve the look at an affordable price.
